Where can I buy your shavings?
You can buy at our factory in Kincheloe, Michigan, or from any of these retailers!
Can I order online?
We don't have an online store, but you can fill out our contact form about ordering and we will get back to you within a day.
Do you sell bulk?
No, at this time we only sell bagged shavings.
Do you deliver?
Yes! Our minimum load is 200 bags, but we can also split a 200 bag load if you have a friend within a mile or two who can take the remainder. We can also do semi loads, which are 1,188 bags. Give us a call or fill out our contact form and we'll do our best to get a load out to you.
How much do the bags cost?
If you buy directly from our factory, our prices vary depending on how many bags you want and if you want them delivered. Give us a call or fill out our contact form and we can determine how to get our shavings to you!
How do I pay?
We accept cash, check, online ACH bank transfers, or credit card (there is an additional 3% fee added to credit card transactions).
What size are the flakes?
Our shavings are a mix of small, medium, and large flakes. The smaller flakes help absorb moisture and the large provide comfort.
How big are your bags?
Our bags are about 2.5 cubic feet compressed and expand to at least 6 cubic feet, and weigh roughly 20 pounds.
What type of wood are the shavings made of?
We use spruce and balsam.
Where do you get your wood?
We get our logs from local loggers harvesting it right here in the E.U.P. of Michigan! Logs come from certified stands that have never been sprayed or chemically treated.
Is there sawdust in your bags?
No, our process is designed to limit the amount of dust in the bags. It includes using a double-screened shaker to filter out fine dust particles, bark, and large pieces. We think you'll find that this makes our product one of the lowest dust-content beddings out there, and very friendly to sensitive respiratory systems, like those of our horse companions.
Are your shavings kiln-dried?
No; we use a biomass burner with a forced-air dried system. In simpler terms—we use the dust that is created during the shaving process as fuel for our burner to create the heat used to dry the shavings. We don't use any gas or oil for our burner, and since we don't spray our shavings with any chemicals, it also means you get a nice, fresh-smelling wood product!
Can the bags be stored outside?
For semi truck deliveries, our bags are stacked on pallets with a top cap and stretch-wrapped so they can be stored outside. However, once unwrapped, we recommend moving the bags into your barn or under a shelter. Our bags do have a UVI coating to protect form sun damage, but we still advise storing unwrapped bags inside for best results.
Are your shavings a by-product?
No, we specifically manufacture our shavings from scratch. The process first begins in the forest: Local loggers sustainably harvest logs and bring them to our plant, where we being the process of turning them into beautiful shavings!
