Our premium-flake organic wood shavings are made with mixture of spruce and balsam. We create a precise mix of small, medium, and large flakes to suit all your animal bedding needs. The small flakes help absorb moisture and make it easy to pick through, so there is less waste. The large flakes work great for show days and provide the ultimate cushion for animals to stand and lay on.
A Safe Wood Shaving
Our organic bedding is great for animals with respiratory issues or skin sensitivity. It does not contain any harsh chemicals or chemical smells (which can irritate an animal's lungs and nose.) The fact that there is minimal dust is also an important benefit to our animals or people with asthma. We use only organic-certified trees to produce our shavings—there are no by-products, additives, or wood waste from manufacturing in our product.
Organic is a labeling term that indicates that the product has been produced and processed using approved methods. The methods integrate cultural, biological, and mechanical practices that foster cycling of resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity. As we become the only certified USDA Organic wood shavings producer in the country, the USDA seal on our bags means you get a product that is produced and maintained to national standards.
The list of benefits goes on and on...
Double-screened to minimize dust
The shavings are sent through a double-screened shaker, separating our bagged product from the wood flour and dust (created when shaving the logs). They are not a by-product from planers or other manufacturing and do not contain any sawdust.
We use the wood flour and dust to heat the burner that dries the shavings. There is no waste of resources with our process. We do not use a kiln so there is no propane or natural gas involved in the drying process—which means our shavings smell like freshly cut spruce and balsam!
Our shavings go through quality control tests to ensure they contain 6-9% moisture.
The absorbency comes from keeping our product within the correct moisture parameters and leaving enough small flakes to adequately soak up liquids like a sponge.
Spruce and balsam have low acidity levels, therefore they biodegrade faster than other species for field applications.
